I very much doubt it. Back in the 70's, I worked news in Richmond VA. There were two top 40 stations, WLEE and WRNL. LEE's news was at 55 and RNL had news at the top of the hour.

Even that long ago, the PD at LEE expected listeners in their cars to push the button, and switch to RNL as soon as the news came on. Both God and the PD forbade you to run past the start of RNL's news, because car listeners were also expected to push the button and return to LEE once the news started on RNL.

Today, there are so many other sources for up-to-the-minute news. Also, playing music and running a serious news operation costs a lot more than just playing music. So, since it's not required, most manaagement doesn't want that cost. As Allan says so often, follow the money.
