The format is called called "Talk Radio", not " Political Talk Radio". At some point , probably after Rush's success , the format morphed into nothing (for the most part) into all political partisan talk. There's SO MUCH more to talk about, and most stations are missing the boat, by alienating a large potential audience who may want to hear something other than 3 hours of one sided political content.

Talk radio shouldn't be about "right vs. left", it should be about being ENTERTAINING !!! The talk format needs to cover a plethora of topics, stories etc. Sadly I don't hear anyone these days doing that and keeping me entertained. I think if a station in NYC did that they'd garner a much bigger audience . (ex. WLW-AM Cincinatti).

Not everyone is a political junkie.... especially female listeners who are currently being underserved in spoken word formats. That's a lot of potential ratings and revenue for a station. Think of all the ads you see on TV during the day on shows like " The View", reality shows etc. That's a pretty sizable portion of revenue. I'm sure radio stations would love to have a chunk of that.

Bottom line...the Talk Radio format needs a serious makeover.
